“You are my rock and my strength. You comfort me. Amazing grace how sweet the sound. I hear You singing over me.” Yes, I am quoting Citizen Way. No, that song did not inspire this article/video. However, upon doing research on this topic “How Sweet The Sound” did playback in my head.
So the question that some of us have is… Why does God comfort us? Hasn’t He done enough already? Why does He even bother with our sorrows when we know we will be with Him one day? This is actually a pretty simple answer. God comforts us directly so that we can minister God’s comfort to others. Basically so that we can comfort others like God comforts us. This is spoken about in the Bible.
2 Corinthians 1:3-6: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer.”
There is no combination of words to express how thankful I am to God for always being there no matter what. Even in our worst times and at our lowest points in life, God is right there beside us.
What do you think? How has God comforted you?
