While the recent beta for Tom Clancy’s The Division only started on February 18th for Xbox One players, and February 19th for everyone else, the new IP is already setting records prior to launch.
The beta, which ended today, was played by more than 6.4 million players making The Division the “biggest beta ever for a new game brand on current generation platforms,” according to the game’s official website. Additionally, players spent around 5 hours on average exploring the game’s open world and around 2 hours on average in the PVP Dark Zone.
The Dark Zone seems to have proven itself to be a very popular feature as over 50% of players went rogue and engaged in combat with fellow agents of The Division. Collectively, players extracted 63,309,800 contaminated items from the Dark Zone. As is to be expected with any beta, progress, characters, and unlocked gear will not carry over to the final game upon launch on March 8th.
Ubisoft has already confirmed that there will be three expansions released post-launch. The underground expansion will allow players to access the sprawling underworld of the city while the survival expansion will focus on surviving in a very hostile environment. No details have been provided on the third expansion.
What do you think of these statistics? Do you think that The Division’s overwhelming popularity will surpass that of similar games like Destiny? Let us know in the comments.
