Today, Insomniac Games broke the news to expectant fans that the much anticipated PS4 remake of PS2 title Ratchet and Clank has been delayed to 2016.
Insomniac explained that the studio decided to delay the game to further align its release with the upcoming CGI movie of the same name.
Insomniac announced the delay via this post from the studio’s Chief Brand Officer Ryan Schneider. The announcement makes it sound as if the game has moved beyond just a simple remake as it seems the developer plans to add several new locales, weapons, and features to the game.
“Insomniac Games is also hard at work at Ratchet & Clank for the PS4, a re-imagination of the original game that started it all 13 years ago,” Schneider writes. “The game, out Spring 2016, re-tells the origin story that ties in closely and expands upon the movie’s narrative.
“It also features several new levels along with reimagined classic locales like Metropolis, brand new weapons and completely redone visuals made possible by the power of the PlayStation 4.”
“While you might have to wait a bit longer than expected, rest assured we’re using the time wisely to further polish the game to a spit-shine level, with dazzling shader response, awe-inspiring effects, velvety smooth animations, and spectacular new gameplay segments.”
Yesterday, Sony confirmed that the Ratchet and Clank movie will release on April 29, 2016. With the game now delayed, Sony could be preparing for a major marketing push by releasing the game in close proximity to the release of the movie.
With the Ratchet and Clank movie’s star-studded cast, including the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Rosario Dawson, and John Goodman, the delay may turn out to be less painful than fans of the series might imagine.
