Microsoft and the ESL have announced the Gears of War Pro League. Starting next week, eight North American teams will have the chance to curb stomp and chainsaw their digital opponents for a prize pool of $50,000. The eight teams include Annex, EnVyUs, Enemy eSports, Murder by Numbers, Swarm Gaming, Synergy, Tragedy, and VexX Gaming.
The Gears of War Pro League teams will face off on Thursday, October 29 at 5:00 pm PT on the league’s official Twitch channel. Those who view the broadcast will be entered to win a custom painted Xbox One with a digital copy of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.
Players watching from home can also purchase an exclusive “Sweaty” weapon skin for $5. All proceeds from sales of this weapon skin will be used to fund future tournaments and prize pools.
Another option available to players who can’t attend the event is the Gears of War Open Series, a ten-week long amateur tournament in which players can compete in pro-style matches for cash rewards and a wireless Elite controller for the Xbox One. The GoW Open Series event starts on Sunday, October 25th. For more information please visit the series’ official website.
To date, Microsoft has reported that more than 10 million online multiplayer matches have been played since Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition’s August 25th release.
