Game of the Year Awards 2018

Finally, we come to the big one: Game of the Year! Of all the games released across all platforms in 2018, which one takes the crown? If you’ve been reading through the rest of this article, both our runner-up and our winner should look familiar:

Insomniac Games has been on a roll in recent years, with games like Sunset Overdrive and the latest Ratchet and Clank game receiving critical praise. Their newest game, Marvel’s Spider-Man, continues their trend of high quality action games, as the iconic web-slinger takes on numerous villains in the big open city of Manhattan.

The saying goes that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but how about an old god? This game won a couple of our other awards this year, and for good reason: Sony Santa Monica has outdone themselves with God of War, the latest in Sony’s long-running franchise. With its intense action, gorgeous visuals, and a story that is surprisingly heartfelt for a series known for its violence, God of War sets a strong example of how to inject fresh ideas into an established property. As a result, it earns our award for 2018 Game of the Year.
