Near the start of the show, in an effort to right the wrongs of Konami banning his appearance at last year’s show, Hideo Kojima took the stage to receive the Industry Icon Award. This award was given for Kojima’s near legendary storytelling, development, and directorial chops on display in the games that he created and for his innovations within the industry. Despite PT and Silent Hills’ cancellation, Kojima inspired an entire new sub-genre of horror games that are played entirely and almost exclusively in first-person.
