I’ve gotten my hands on a handful of TOZO products in recent years. Both the earbuds and headsets I’ve used have been great. Enter the NC20 Pro, a set of earbuds with some of their top-of-the-line features and a particularly eye-catching case for about the price of a new triple-A video game. Based on my past experience, I expected good things out of the NC20 Pro. I’m happy to report TOZO’s offerings continue to deliver.
Based on the listing on TOZO’s website, $80 feels like a great price for the selling points: an 80-hour battery life, Hi-Res Audio, an LED display on the case, and noise cancellation. That feels right in line with their competition in the space, and given some of its feature set, could set it a step above.
In the box, the NC20 Pro came with the earbuds, some ear cushions of different sizes to change out for comfort and fit, the charging/travel case, a short USB-C cable, and some literature to guide you through setting up the earbuds.
Now that we have everything we need out of the box and into our hands, let’s get to the particulars, starting with the charging case. Most charging cases feel fairly straightforward – a battery-charged travel case where you can store the earbuds to charge them back up. The NC20 Pro immediately sets itself apart, though, since the charging case here is a special case…literally. Instead of your typical charging (which is does do), the NC20 Pro case is basically a full-blown control panel with a touch interface. You can see the time, battery charge left in the case, and a host of features to interact with. From the LED panel, you can adjust the volume, toggle noise cancellation, adjust the equalizer, and, should you misplace an earbud, trigger a search function to locate the misplaced piece.
I think it’s worth noting that, to get the full experience from the case’s functionality (or even set the time properly), you’ll have to download the TOZO app on your phone. This app requires location data, which I was unwilling to give it, so the clock on my case was always incorrect. C’est la vie. There’s no reason I can come up with that a set of earbuds would need my location data, and I’m uncomfortable just handing peripherals non-essential access. Your mileage may vary.
One thing of particular note to me as a person with bigger hands is that the way the earbuds sit in the case, it can be hard to gently get them out. Other earbud cases design divots to make removal easy, or implement magnetic latching to have the units seat for easy access. The NC20 Pro case is designed with little-to-no wiggle room, so the buds fit snugly in the case, but that makes taking them out a chore.
Now that we’ve gotten everything else out of the way, let’s dig into the earbuds themselves. Whether you’re listening to movies, YouTube videos, music, or games, the NC20 Pro earbuds have excellent sound quality. They feature Hi-Res Audio, which can give you 3x the audio data of a standard Bluetooth device. Regardless of tone, pitch, or quality, the NC20 Pros will sound fantastic.
They’re a fairly standard ergonomic design with a little extra depth for comfort within the ear. Each is coated in the same matte black plastic as the charging case. The design of the NC20 Pro earbuds almost reminds me of modified Apple earbuds. They’re simple and utilitarian, but perform wonderfully. Beyond just listening, each earbud is equipped with capacitive touch controls. You can adjust volume, pause what you’re listening to, and more at the touch of the earbud.
The TOZO NC20 Pro earbuds are competitively priced and deliver a great experience for the money. The case extends usability, but without downloading an app and granting it access to non-essential data, you can’t fully utilize it. Removing the buds could prove a mildly frustrating experience, too. That said, once you have the NC20 Pro in your ears, the world melts away. Highs are crisp and vibrant, and lows deliver in a way that you never feel you’re losing out on those sweet, deep tones. The noise cancellation works as advertised, and the battery life is substantial. It took me a couple of weeks, using ~8 hours a day, to drain them from a full charge. Competitor earbuds cost about the same, but the features offered by the NC20 Pro easily make it worth your consideration.
