Four years after its initial launch, Animal Crossing: New Leaf received a brand new content update yesterday. Announced via an Animal Crossing-themed Nintendo Direct, the game now features amiibo support. Tapping amiibo to the touchscreen on the 3DS will invite those amiibo characters to a campground within the game.
At this campground players can purchase items not found anywhere else in the game and can even invite these characters to live within their in-game town. The update also allows players to transfer save data to New Leaf from Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and even allows players to re-arrange the furniture in their home using the stylus and 3DS touch screen. There is also a new currency, MEOW Coins, used to purchase items at the campground. An in-game Wii U and 3DS console allow players to participate in new Animal Crossing mini games.
