Red: The Overflow – Day 1

Hello and welcome! This is the Geeks Under Grace daily devotional where we dive into the Bible everyday. We take devotionals from and read the verses, devotional, and give our own commentary. Sometimes we will have multiple writers, but most of the time it will be just me. I hope you enjoy and comment with your own commentary.
This devotional is titled “Red – The Overflow Devo”. It is only 7 days long. I use the ESV bible but feel free to use the version of your choosing.

Romans 3:21-31
“21But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—22the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,24and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
27 Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law. 29Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30since God is one—who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. 31Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.”

All have fallen short of the glory of God. We are all sinners yet Christ died for us. That was the greatest love that was ever shown in history. In the song “Same Disease,” it talks about how we are all toxic and infected with this thing called sin. Sometimes it can feel like we are the only one that is infected with this disease, causing us to be shameful and to hide our sickness. We need to lean on each other and carry each other’s burdens day-by-day, living in the proof of God’s Grace presented through Christ as a sacrifice of atonement for our sins.
As Christians it can be easy to say there are two sides to every moral issue, black and white. Which in most cases I would say is true, but we shouldn’t have the mindset of Christians against Non-Christians. Since we are all in the same boat, so to speak, with this disease, we need to show that same love that Christ showed for us. Remember, they will know we are Christians by our Love. So let’s infect this world with some of God’s love today.

Sin really is a toxic disease that we are all infected with. I had never thought about it like that prior to this devotional. Yet, it is true. Sin is disease that is crippling us all and slowly killing us. After all, we are all going to die one day. That was not what God wanted for us. Sin has brought us death, among many other things.
Ever asked someone who doesn’t believe in God why they believe doing something is morally wrong? Where does their morals derive from? Is it just a matter of opinion? I always found that to be a curious thought. That may be something you should think about if you ever need to explain what sin is to a non believer.
