Catalyst – Day 9

Welcome to the daily devotional we have. This is a learning process for me as I go along and I hope you can join me. I will pick a devotional on www.bible.com (feel free to go there and pick the same reading plan) and be posting the verse(s), devotional, and my own personal commentary. Feel free to leave your own commentary in the comments as I would love to read your guys thoughts. Also, I will have a video that relates to the devotional.
This devotional is titled “Catalyst-Known: A 21 Day Journey”. It is 21 days long. I use the ESV bible but feel free to use the version of your choosing.

Verses

Genesis 1:26-27
“Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Devotional

As we focus on calling, there is an overall calling as a follower of Christ. Whether we’re working at 7-Eleven in St. Louis or World Vision in Sri Lanka, there are certain characteristics that remain the same. Today we’ll focus on one of them. We’ve talked about this a lot at Catalyst. We’re made in the image of God. We are his image-bearers. We shine his light in the world. We were made to resemble our Creator.
Main Passage: Matthew 5.14-16
Reflection:
  • What does it mean to be an image-bearer?
  • What’s an example of being an image-bearer today? When is it hard to be an image-bearer?
  • Thank God that he uses you to be his image-bearer in the world.

Commentary

We are made in the image of God. Some of you may say “Duh, no kidding. Everyone knows that.” We as Christians need to not only be made in the image of God, but also do as Christ did. For us to look an act like the world does is simply a waste. A waste of time and effort. Because let’s be real. You have to put time and effort into acting and looking like the world does. It isn’t natural. It may become natural over time, but once again it required you to adhere to their standards. So SHINE! I know it is an old Newboys song, but wow is it still true. Be a light to others!
