Happy New Years, Geeks!
So here we are again, going into the New Year trying to decide what we want to change about ourselves. Here are some recommendations for New Years Resolutions:
1. Make a resolution everyday.
I must confess, I stole this idea from The Dirty Christian, but why are we only willing to change once per year? We should be walking with Jesus every day. So fess up to your regrets and mistakes from yesterday and move forward tomorrow, resolute to do something different.
2. Think about what you did last year.
We all can look in the rear-view mirror and see things much clearer than we did at the time we did them. So, take an account for things from last year that you want to do better this year and do them… one day at a time.
3. Ask your family/friends what you could have done differently.
We all have a very skewed idea of how we act and behave, so take the advice of those you confide in and see how they felt about your year. Maybe they have some insight into your life that you wouldn’t see otherwise.
4. Schedule a meeting with your Pastor or Elder.
Find out where the church is headed in this new year. See what their vision and mission is and try to get involved in it by using your own gifts and talents.
5. Above all, find a way to love someone.
The old adage applies: you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. No one wants to hear that they need Jesus from someone who literally spends zero time per day getting to know them. If you care so much for their soul, care for their needs as well. That’s precisely what Jesus did that made the religious people hate him.
