We got a whole lot of entries for the Wii U contest. It was hard, but we had to narrow down the entries we received to just twelve. These are the contenders for the grand prize, which will be announced on December 16th. These entries are in no particular order.

The Little Wii U That Could
“I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was!” The Wii U said sitting alone in his room. “To show them that I’m the best, I’m console number 1!” The Wii U has been very discouraged ever since he was created. He and his family haven’t been selling well, but all that has been changing lately. Fresh off the line, in a nice new box he calls his room, little Wii U awaits to meet his new owner. If you didn’t know, each Wii U is equipped with a communication device so they can talk to their family. This Wii U is just about to call his mom to tell her how excited he really is. The communication device rings on his mom’s end, and she answers, excited to finally speak to her new son. “Mom! Today was the day! I actually got purchased from the store!!!” Little Wii U exclaims. “Oh that’s great, honey! Have you been opened yet?” Momma Wii U asks. “No ma’am. I think I overheard them talking, and they said I am part of a contest… Whatever that means…” “OH! A contest, How nice!” Momma Wii U’s grandmother, Granny Gamecube was also in a contest. “You mean this is a good thing?” Little Wii U asks, unsure on what exactly all this means. “Oh honey, you will be just fine. It may take a while for you to be unboxed, but your time will come soon enough, and you can bet on whoever ends up winning you will be so thrilled!” Momma Wii U always was a smart woman , knowing what to say at every situation. Not too long ago, her friend was dealing with a broken controller. Discouraged, her friends came to Momma Wii U for advice. Momma Wii U said that each owner ALWAYS gets another controller when something happens, and if that doesn’t happen soon, it will happen later. Eventually, Momma’s friend got a new controller, and hasn’t been happier. “I gotta go Momma. They are about to tell me what I have to do to be given away! Love you!” Little Wii U says his goodbyes, and is ready to do what he was made for!
“Ok little guy. I know you thought you had to compete, but actually, people are trying to win YOU!” A mysterious voice calls out to Little Wii U. “R-Reggie..?” “Yes, it is I, King Reginald, telling you to sit tight! I know you want to smash, and play with Mario, but your time WILL come. In the meantime, enjoy this Zelda Orchestra!” Reggie replies. “And remember; ALWAYS make sure your body is REGGIE! Haha!” Little Wii U, greatly honored and a little scared, has no choice but to contact someone he thinks worthy of winning. Little Wii U proceeds to call Josh, someone who has been wanting a Wii U for a long time, and it being so close to his birthday, (Dec. 18th in fact.) he could think of no one better. “Hello, who is this?” Josh answers, not recognizing the number. “Hi! You don’t know me, but I know you! I am a fresh Wii U, and you have a chance to win me in a contest!” Little Wii U realized how silly it probably sounded to a human, but waited for his response anyway before further explaining himself. “Oh, really? That is great news! I have wanted one for so long!” “But there is a catch. This is no ordinary contest. In order to win, you have to go on a journey that won’t be easy.” Little Wii U continues to explain. “You have to travel to Death Mountain! Scary, I know, but it is the only way!” “HOW ON EARTH AM I TO DO THAT?!” Josh asks, seriously confused. Come on, who wouldn’t be. “I don’t know, but I DO have faith in you. I chose you for a reason, and I know we will be great friends once all this is over. Anytime you need me, my codex is… what, I don’t have one of those. I’ll call you, how about that?” Little Wii U says. “Okay, I’ll do it for you, buddy. Death Mountain, here I come!” Josh is a little lost right now though. Death Mountain is actually in a video game. Will Josh be able to figure it out? Find out one the next paragraph of Dragon- er… ‘The Little Wii U That Could’!
After doing some serious thinking, Josh remembers that he owns the game that Death Mountain is in. It’s actually the Gamecube version, but it will all work just the same. Josh got this Gamecube used from Gamestop a few years ago, and has loved it ever since. As Josh pulls out his Gamecube, he gets a call from Little Wii U. “Josh! I think that might be my Great Granny!” Little Wii U exclaims. “I’ll be right back, I’m going to have my mom call you.” *Hey, listen!* “Hello?” Josh answers. “Josh! My son has told me all about you. It appears that you have my Grandmother.” Momma Wii U explains. “Okay great, but how does this help me?” Josh asks, confused yet again. “She might be able to help you. I heard you need to get into Death Mountain. She is REALLY good with programming, and she might even be able to teleport you into the game.” Momma Wii U tells Josh. “Great! But how do I talk to her?” “Take the game disc, put it in upside down, and go into Memory card management. Knowing her, that’s how she likes to talk to people, but she didn’t want to make it too obvious. I’ll have Little Wii U call you when you make it in. Good luck!” Momma Wii U hangs up, and Josh proceeds to do as she told him. Opening the game hatch, popping the game in upside, and heading to Memory Card, a message appears. *Chat with Granny? Yes __ or __ No.* He chooses yes, and a still image of a Gamecube appears. “WHA! Who is there? It’s been so long since someone has visited.” Granny GC says. “Hey Granny, my name is Josh. I am trying to win your Great grandson in a contest! I need to get to Death Mountain, is there any way you can help?” “Of course, dear! I would be glad to help you. Everything is all set, all you have to do open the disk hatch, and step on in. you should appear at Death Mountain!” Granny GC Says. A little nervous, Josh steps on the Gamecube, and instantly gets sucked in the game. As he looks around, he noticed that his attire changed. He is now wearing Links signature outfit! “HYEEEHH!” That’s weird. Apparently Josh even speaks like Link. Josh proceeds to the peak of the mountain, and inside he finds a chest. He opens it, music plays, and inside is Little Wii U. Next thing Josh knew, he was back in the real world. Sadly, there is no Little Wii U to be found. All of a sudden, he gets a call. “Josh! You did it! I am being shipped to you right now. I should see you in a couple days. I can’t wait!” “Me either, buddy. We are going to get along so well!”
And like that, the Little Wii U, so anxious to be wanted, finally had an owner who would love and care for him. A couple days have passed, and on Josh’s birthday, a package arrives. Inside the box lies a Wii U. He rips open the box, unboxes Little Wii U, and plugs him in without hesitation. A card appears when he starts it up with the following: “Thank you so much! I know it wasn’t easy, and didn’t make much sense, but you did do a great job, and I couldn’t be happier with you as my owner! Also, that Reggie guy is behind you. Watch out!”
Sucked into a battle arena, Josh finds himself against the Legendary Reggie. “Josh, there is one more condition on winning, saving this Wii U. MWHAHA!” “Reggie, are you crazy?! This is so unlike you…” Josh says, concerned. “You heard me right, punk.” Reggie retorts. “Wait a minute… I know what’s wrong. Eat a Snickers, you aren’t you when you are hungry!” Josh hands Reggie a Snickers, and he consumes it with one bite! “Wow Josh, thank you so much. I don’t know what got over me. The Wii U is free, and you both can live together in harmony for the rest of your days! Remember, anytime you have a problem…. SETTLE IT IN SMASH!” Reggie says as he sprouts wings and flies into the sunset.
Josh wakes up to find a gift. He un-wraps it, and inside is a game, along with a note. “From Reggie: Sorry about yesterday! No harm done? Anytime you want to smash, just call!” As you may have guessed, the game was Smash Bros. Wii U. He pops it in and proceeds to play. This was a story of a young Wii U with a great attitude, and a boy willing to do anything for him. Josh and Little Wii U formed a bond that could never be broken, and he thanks YOU for the opportunity!

Nintendo Poem! HYEH!
I love to play Nintendo,
It made my life crescendo.
The fun will never end-o,
When playing some Nintendo.
When I was oh so young,
And preschool just begun,
A box for me, ‘neath Christmas Tree
I knew it was the one.
No better gift I’ve ever had
That changed my life and core,
Than 90’s gadgetry taken form
As Mario 64!
And since that day, I’ve felt so free
To use imagination.
‘Twas just this brand that held me up,
Not Xbox or Playstation.
I shan’t forget those sacred Karts,
The items and the crashing.
But soft, I dare not leave these out:
The parties and the smashing.
I gladly give my money to
The ones who take these bids,
To labor hard and make the games
I’ll pass on to my kids.
It’s not just games, it’s more than that
It’s transformed inspiration,
A catalyst, encouragement,
To kids in every nation.
Just as the hero of Time prevails
Through dungeon and arena,
So I can wear Kokiri Boots
And play my Ocarina.
So all of this I see,
And all of this I do,
To finish my collection with
A fabulous Wii U.
I love to play Nintendo,
It made my life crescendo.
The fun will never end-o,
When playing some Nintendo.
Master of Tournaments
(The origin of Super Smash Bros.)
The Master Hand worked franticly. This was a last ditch effort and he knew it. If this didn’t work his whole world was in danger of collapsing. Even now the fragile universe he created was on the tipping point between order and chaos. The last thing it needed was a push in the wrong direction! This had to work. If it didn’t, well… Master Hand didn’t want to think about that.
He still had a lot of work to do! He had to finish his latest creation. Even that alone would have been a draining task. But on top of that, he still had to prepare his assistant, Crazy Hand, for battle, and make the arrangements for the fourth tournament… all in a matter of days!! Time was running out, but Master Hand was exhausted. Even with power that bordered on absolute, he still got tired sometimes. He debated about taking a break to get some rest but he ultimately decided against it. He had to get this done!!
‘How did it come to this?’ he thought. Fearing his own creations was definitely out of character for Master Hand. But given the circumstances, it’s easy to sympathize. ‘I’m not the bad guy here!’ Master Hand told himself over and over. Whether he is or not… well, I’ll let you decided.
You see, many years ago, Master Hand created an entire universe. He called the universe “Nintendo”. An odd name, but Master Hand took a liking to it. The universe was a labor of his imagination. Everything in it was a product of his creativity. In this universe there were many realms. Each realm had at least one hero that protected the world from villains. In fact that’s probably the only thing all the realms had in common, because each realm was excessively different from the next. For example, one realm he made was called the “Mushroom Kingdom” and focused mainly on a hero named Mario trying to rescue the princess from an evil Koopa king named Bowser. While another realm he created was called “Star Fox” and was based on a space exploring fox and his team guarding the universe from any evil forces attempting to conquer it. Master Hand created many great and heroic adventures for each one of his realms. Stories of heroes. Stories of courage. Stories of good vs. evil. Master Hand enjoyed watching the heroes he had created and drew much entertainment out of it. Perhaps even too much entertainment. He began thinking of new ways he could use his heroes. Some way to expand the world he had so carefully created. That’s when he got the idea…
Master Hand drew the twelve greatest heroes from the universe he’d created and placed them in a central realm. This new realm was called “Smash”. It was built for the one purpose of heroes coming together to compete in fighting tournaments… solely for the entertainment of Master Hand. A fighter’s grand goal of this realm was being counted worthy enough to fight against Master Hand himself in a friendly exhibition match. Master Hand, for some reason, took great pleasure in testing his creations’ strength in fighting matches. Few were counted worthy. Some won – some didn’t. But over all things seemed perfect in this new realm. However there was a big problem. That being that “Smash” acted as somewhat of a bridge way between all the previous realms Master Hand had made. All the other realms were connected to “Smash” in one way or another, which is how Master Hand was able to pull so many fighters from the different dimensions together. Well how is that problematic you may ask. You see when Master Hand pulled all of the heroes into the new realm, he left the memories of their old worlds behind. That way they wouldn’t think anything amiss and wouldn’t get freaked out… or worse, attempt a revolt. Even more, just to be on the safe side, Master Hand turned all of his heroes into dolls and kept them locked in a toy chest when we wasn’t using them. However, all of the energy flowing from the connecting realms started to cause the fighters to come to life even when Master Hand hadn’t summoned them. Slowly but surely, their memories started to return. They realized that they didn’t belong in this world, and that they were being controlled by Master Hand. They decided they had to revolt in order to return to their old worlds. So the twelve over them decided to take on Master Hand.
The fight between them was epic! It was a long and fierce battle that the heroes were just about to win. But, towards the end of the battle, Master Hand felt his power begin to ebb. Master Hand feared he might even die. So, with his remaining energy, he erased all of the fighters memories of the “Smash” realm, and sent every one of them back to their home worlds. That was the end of the first great tournament.
Master Hand knew there had to be changes if he was ever to have another tournament again. He had enjoyed to first tournament very much and craved a second. But he knew it was much too dangerous in the present state. But what could he do to insure safety for the next tournament, both for himself and his heroes. He decided, instead of turning the fighters into dolls, he would turn them into trophies. Not only would trophies absorb much more energy than the dolls, (so there was no fear of them coming to life without him summoning them) but also if one of the fighters was to fall in battle, they could easily be revived by a simple touch. Also (so as not to have a repeat of last time) Master Hand created a new partner, Crazy Hand. Between the two of them there was no way the fighters could ever succeed in a revolt again. Thus, the second great tournament, the Melee Tournament, commenced.
The Melee Tournament had more stages and more fighters. But even with the additional combatants, the tournament went off without a hitch. When it was over, Master Hand once again restored their old memories and sent them home. He was feeling pretty good about himself. But it was after the second tournament that he made his big mistake. You see Master Hand was constantly creating new worlds with new heroes and new adventures. A new realm was created but this realm was… different. It’s was different from all the other realms in the sense that, while all his other realms were mostly lighthearted and happy, this realm was a more dark and mysterious place.
The realm was called “Subspace”. It centered on a powerful hero named Tabuu thwarting the plans of even more powerful enemies. That doesn’t sound too different from the other realms, but Tabuu was certainly different from all the other heroes. You see Tabuu needed a lot of energy to fight the villains that he did, so he was made with a special link to Master Hand himself! This link aloud Tabuu to draw energy directly from Master Hand whenever he needed to! This made Tabuu easily the strongest hero in the “Nintendo” universe.
Tabuu was a great warrior, so when Master Hand chose fighters for the third great tournament, the Brawl Tournament, Tabuu was among them. Tabuu fought well and, because of his special link, it was no wonder why he was the first in this new tournament to be counted worthy enough to face Master Hand. But Tabuu had an more devious plan. He had somehow learned of his special bond with Master Hand and planned to use it to take over the universe. So what was supposed to be a “friendly fight” quickly turned south when, just about to win, Tabuu used his bond on a weakened Master Hand and drained all of his power. Crazy Hand saw this and tried to fight but, possessing all the power of Master Hand, Tabuu easily overpowered the weaker Crazy Hand. Tabuu was now master of this created universe. Now he could move on to phase two. With all the power of Master Hand, Tabuu was able to see all the other realms and, believing they were all inferior to his, planned to turn all the realms in to “Subspace”. Master Hand, still having the special bond with Tabuu knew of this plan. He began to take back his energy, but very slowly so Tabuu wouldn’t notice. But even with taking back his energy, Master Hand knew his only hope was call upon the other fighters for help. But, fearing another revolt, he summoned only a few fighters. He summoned Bowser, Ganondorf, Wario, King Dedede and Meta Knight. He explained the situation and told them they needed to secretly collect all the over fighters so that they could combat Tabuu and defeat him once and for all.
All the fighters he summoned agreed… all except King Dedede that is. After hearing all that Master Hand had done Dedede, justifiably, didn’t trust him, and decided to collect fighters on his own. Except for a few setbacks, Master Hand and the others’ plan went very well. However, before all the fighters had been assembled, Master Hand learned that Tabuu planned to attack earlier than they originally thought. So Master Hand and Ganondorf attempted to take on Tabuu all on their own. Bowser would have been there too but Ganondorf had betrayed him at this point over leadership rights. Master Hand had been reclaiming his energy from Tabuu for a while now but he was still in no state to fight. So, to no one’s surprise, Tabuu easily defeated them. Ganondorf was turned back into a trophy… and Master Hand died. The rest of the heroes did eventually catch up with Tabuu. It was another long and epic battle but, once again, the heroes were victorious. “Subspace” was destroyed and Tabuu was defeated forever. The massive energy surge that took place when Tabuu went down revived Master Hand. With his powers returned he wiped the fighters’ memories of “Smash” and sent them home, but ever grateful for the incredible service they had done for him.
And that’s where we are now. Against his better judgment Master Hand wanted to have a fourth tournament but he knew there was no he could in his current state. So wanting to insure that something like Tabuu could never happen again, he constructed his new creation -the Master Core. If Master Hand’s powers ever start to ebb again, this Master Core will kick in and drive away the invader. But only time will tell if it actually works or not. His biggest fear is that, in his still weaker state, it will kick in during one of his friendly exhibition matches. He hoped that wouldn’t happen but if it did… He shoved that thought out of his mind and welcomed the fighters to the fourth “Smash” tournament!!!
