Earlier in the week we reported that it appeared Rockstar Games was teasing a new upcoming release. The first two images discussed in our initial report appeared to indicate that the game would be a follow up to Rockstar’s western masterpiece, Red Dead Redemption. After today’s announcement, we can confidently confirm that Red Dead Redemption 2 will release on Xbox One and PS4 in 2017. A trailer for the new title is also slated to premiere on Thursday at 11AM EST.
Rockstar declined to provide further details at this time but did indicate that the game will be “an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland, the game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.” It is safe to assume that this multiplayer experience will be a Wild West version of GTA Online.
A previous leak indicated that the game would be a prequel, and a map points to the sequel being set slightly to the east of the original game.
