Hello and welcome! This is the Geeks Under Grace daily devotional where we dive into the Bible everyday. We take devotionals from bible.com and read the verses, devotional, and give our own commentary. Sometimes we will have multiple writers, but most of the time it will be just me. I hope you enjoy and comment with your own commentary.
This devotional is titled “for King & Country – The Overflow Devo”. It is only 7 days long. I use the ESV bible but feel free to use the version of your choosing.
“Keep your heart with all vigilance,
for from it flow the springs of life.”
“but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.”
‘Hope is what we Crave and that will never change.’ It doesn’t take much looking around to see that this is a true statement, maybe more today than ever in history. Watch your favorite news station, reality TV show or even take a stroll through your local mall and you’ll find that the precarious issue of the modern age is there are so many big shiny toys to crave. At quick glance some of these ‘hope substitutes’ do a pretty good job of imitating the real thing, at least they do for a moment.
Proverbs 4:23 ‘Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.’
Let me pose a question to us all: Are we impacting culture or is culture impacting us? Are we infecting society with true hope or are we letting their poor imitation of hope persuade us?
Note(s) to self: 1. Be careful what you watch, listen to and the environments you place yourself in. 2. Embrace accountability.
Isaiah 40:31 ‘…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.’
Hope is what we crave. No doubt about it. What is life without hope? What is life without grace? It is meaningless. If everything is predestined then life is pointless. There is no reason to strive for anything if there isn’t any hope. There is no reason to live better if there is no grace. We need them like we need air and water. They are life essentials. People who lose hope enter a deep, dark depression and ultimately end their life. God gives us hope. Jesus gives us grace. We just need to take hold of them both and run boldly.
What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments.
