Hello and welcome! This is the Geeks Under Grace daily devotional where we dive into the Bible everyday. We take devotionals from bible.com and read the verses, devotional, and give our own commentary. Sometimes we will have multiple writers, but most of the time it will be just me. I hope you enjoy and comment with your own commentary.
This devotional is titled “Find Purpose In Your Work”. It is only 3 days long. I use the ESV bible but feel free to use the version of your choosing.
“So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther”
1 Peter 4:10
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace”
God is already moving in our lives and around the world. He’s already working out His plans for you. But only He can show you how He is really working. In hectic days and weeks, it can sometimes be hard to listen and watch in prayer to see how God is already moving. If we miss how God is moving today, how can we expect to see where He will move tomorrow?
In Luke 24, on the road to Emmaus, Jesus explains God’s plan to two men who were not able to recognize him. It was only when their eyes were open that they recognized Jesus and fully understood his plan. How humbling to think that they could walk next to Jesus and be kept from knowing him! We must remember that it is God who opens the eyes of our heart.
Take a moment to listen to God about how He is moving in your life. Listen to God through this prayer, asking, ‘Where is God giving you strength?’
We need to take time every day to listen to God. This includes being by yourself, not listening to anything, not watching anything, not taking selfies, not looking at social media, don’t even say a word. Just pray to God to speak to you and then shush. He will speak to you. You just need to give Him the moment to talk. Sometimes we forget prayer is a two way street. We end up doing all the talking and then when we finish we just run off and go do something. God doesn’t even get an opportunity to respond! I challenge you to pray whatever you want answers to and just be silent. Go for a walk, but don’t listen to music or bring anyone with. I know I get spoken to when I turn off the music in my car and drive.
