Welcome to the daily devotional we have. This is a learning process for me as I go along and I hope you can join me. I will pick a devotional on www.bible.com (feel free to go there and pick the same reading plan) and be posting the verse(s), devotional, and my own personal commentary. Feel free to leave your own commentary in the comments as I would love to read your guys thoughts. Also, I will have a video that relates to the devotional.
This devotional is titled “Catalyst-Known: A 21 Day Journey”. It is 21 days long. I use the ESV bible but feel free to use the version of your choosing.
“O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.
Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
and the light about me be night,”
even the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is bright as the day,
for darkness is as light with you.
For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.
How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
If I would count them, they are more than the sand.
I awake, and I am still with you.
Oh that you would slay the wicked, O God!
O men of blood, depart from me!
They speak against you with malicious intent;
your enemies take your name in vain.
Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord?
And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?
I hate them with complete hatred;
I count them my enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!”
Thank you for digging into the Bible with us. We’re examining our identity in Christ this week. The more we explore this topic, the deeper we dig, the more we’ll learn. It’s similar to what author Jim Collins calls “confronting the brutal facts, yet never lose faith.” When we focus on who God is and who he created us to be we’re going to be world changers. That kind of transformation is contagious. Today, we’re reading Psalm 139. There are portions of this psalm that are very familiar. Ask God for fresh eyes. As you read, focus on God’s presence, knowledge and care for you.
Main Passage: Psalm 139
What aspects of God are meaningful to the psalmist?
What phrases stick out to you?
Thank God for those things in this psalm. Open your mind to God as you make verses 23 and 24 your prayer.
Sometimes I get a song in my head and it is stuck there all day. Today it is “Here I Am To Worship”. The past few days have been really good for me, personally. This isn’t to say everything went perfectly, but they went well. It seems like it is always easier to praise God and worship Him when things are going well. This is when I tend to slack off with prayer. The opposite is true when things go bad. I end up praying a ton and not worshiping Him. God knows my heart and I ask Him to search it (Psalm 139:23-24). He knows when I am being sincere and when I am faking it. Just know that being sincere with God will get you further than simply going through the motions. If you feel like praying then pray. If you feel like worshiping then worship. God knows you even better than you do.
